FAQ with Todd Henry

Have you really been doing this for 20 years?

Yes, the show began as a labor of love. I was a young creative director trying to find ways to help my team stay healthy, but was struggling to discover any resources to help. So, I created my own. I released the first few episodes, kind of forgot about it, and a month later (while searching for podcasts to listen to) discovered that mine was one of the top shows on iTunes. Crazy, huh?

If you've been doing this for 20 years, why are there so few episodes?

Actually, there are thousands. (Yes, thousands.) But, in 2024 we decided to start over from episode 1. We eliminated the entire back catalog for what was known as The Accidental Creative and started over with a new format and new name. So, those episodes still exist in the ether, and some subscribers have access to the archives, but for now they are not publicly available any longer.

Who was your first guest?

In 2007, I started doing interview episodes. My first guests were Seth Godin, Stephen Nachmanovitch, and Steven Pressfield. In fact, it was so early in the podcast game that when I completed my Skype (!!!) interview with Steve Pressfield he candidly asked, "Todd, what's a podcast?" I'm grateful that he was willing to chat with me not knowing exactly what we were doing!

So what do you actually do

Great question. I speak internationally (at some of the biggest events in the world), write books (seven to date, and working on my eighth), and advise leaders and renowned creators. You can hire me, but you can also support the show by purchasing one of my books. I think you'll find them helpful.

How long will you keep doing a podcast?

I've always been moved by the words of Mick Jagger. In a 1964 interview, he was cornered by a TV host and asked "So... how long do you think you guys can keep this thing going?"

Mick's response? "Well, I think we're pretty well set up for another year."

So, in the same spirit, I think we're pretty well set up for another year.
